GERA01 involved the transformation of the former Embassy of Nigeria to the GDR in the East-Berlin neighbourhood of Pankow into a residential use building.

GERA01 is named after a construction model for GDR-Governmental buildings. The modern style building is part of a group of seven embassies built in 1974. Despite its small size >Gera 01< shows interesting features of an architecture and garden designed for representational purposes such as an elevated ground floor, generous stairs at the entrance and a large terrace.

The client asked for three apartments, in the basement, on the ground and first floor. In the basement, the facade of the main living area now opens to a new terrace and a grass ramp, linking the house and the beautiful garden.

An additional studio on top of the first floor was supposed to create a duplex apartment. The studio included spaces for work and visitors and is not realized yet.
